When it comes to setting up Organizational Insight teams or an HR Analytics function, many companies solve the need for analytics capabilities by bringing in people from Finance or getting economists on board along with HR professionals, which, according to IBM, is not a bad solution, but it inevitably produces problems as People Analytics is not exclusively about gathering data and producing hard facts, it is also about storytelling.

Clodagh O´Reilly, who is Science & Consulting Practice Leader at Smarter Workforce EMEA for IBM, did just that in Amsterdam at our previous Workforce Analytics Summit: telling stories about factors that businesses rarely measure – the human nature and certain behaviours that people bring to the table – and explaining the cause-effect relation between Capacity, Capability, and Context when it comes to individuals working at a company.
